BPI-Six Sigma: A Series of Articles on Business Process Improvement
Beginning January 2004, HPS Leadership Best Practices will
feature a series of monthly articles on Business Process Improvement
or Six-Sigma.
These articles will be authored by Morris Williamson, an HPS colleague
who has expertise in BPI-Six Sigma, statistical forecasting, and
related processes. He has published extensively on a variety of
application topics including quantitative methods, operations research,
and management sciences.
The BPI-Six Sigma articles will focus on the following and include
other related information:
- General overview with organizational role and team relationships,
including books and other materials available for leading concept
discussions.
- General overview of tools used for process analysis and tools
used for analysis of data obtained from the process.
- Detailed overview of process mapping, cause/effect diagramming
(fishbone), root cause analysis, prioritization matrices, brainstorming,
etc.
- Check sheet (focused data collection), Pareto diagramming, trend
charts, scatter diagrams (correlation analysis), histograms, etc.
The statistical forecasting series of articles will include a general
overview of various methodologies, an overview of regression analysis
strengths and weaknesses, and time series analysis.
HPS recognizes the importance and value of BPI-Six Sigma for all
businesses. Our intentions are to continue providing an educational
forum for senior leaders who are interested in learning more about
BPI-Six Sigma from an expert's perspective.
These articles are intended to provide valuable information and
also to establish a forum for dialogue between the author and HPS
Leadership Best Practices subscribers. To this point, please
